...

We want to see something where we would otherwise not see it. If after so many looks we still can’t see something is there, we conclude that it is not there. It would not occur to us to say that it is there because someone else says it is there. (Yet it is also well-known that our perception can be influenced by what we expect to see, and especially what we have been stigmatized for not seeing.) If something must be seen only by someone who already believes that it was intended to be there, then that something must not be there at all in the first place. A condition for something to have faith for is it must not be there in the first place. It needs faith to see and to receive what is given.
