Be this the course
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matt5:6
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Isaiah 5:1-2
Is it that longing irrepressible? After having learnt of something of own weakness, after having tasted exceeding bitterness and repulse of sin? This state of mind is not merely conviction, no, it is not remorse, nor sorrow, nor a struggle to obtain a hope or to get out of danger. What is it that this soul craves? It is an important condition that the mind should have somewhat clear apprehensions of the thing needed and of the means of obtaining it. Effort cannot be well directed unless the subject be in some good measure understood. I must by all means see what this is before I can intelligently seek it and hope to gain it. The seemingly mystical and unmeaning ‘abiding in Me’, ‘God in us’, 'Holy Spirit that dwelleth in you’, this blessing of fullness we must always ask. And believe. All promises imply full supply. Often a need for great perseverance there is. This, is to be the course of things, so long as we remain in the flesh, and perhaps, forever. All are making progress, but God. No end to the disclosures to be made, nor to the truths to be learnt. Suppose that somewhere in the lapse of eternal ages, there is a point where nothing remains, not another point to be inquired after, another fact to be investigated, Alas, what a blow to the bliss of heaven. Here in the depth of Word, here is that far better than all you seek. Come and eat ye what is good.
Be by this means I am filled as I have not often been as yet.
