La Vie en Rose Really Is To Me

Complete depiction of a passionate character, albeit complicated and messy and traumatic due to diseased past and societies in Paris. Edith was ironically both disturbed and glorious; someone trapped in her oddly frustrated body, both mental and physical, yet still managed to give out the fullest of it. Gestures and mimics were enchanting; Edith's, I mean. Eyes opened wide--both when the curtains opened and when she guffawed or yelled.

The chronological sequences in the movie were rather messy and confusing, without any rule of going backward or forward. However, perhaps it is astutely and appropriately captures the essence and the spirit of Edith's life.

La Vie en Rose

For the first time I was rather forcefully encouraged to see a movie:

'Generally a genuine (I think) re-telling on a person's lifestory is worth pondering and learning from. Plus, the movie was well-acted; it was convincing, realistic to the point of not sparing the viewers from both loveliness and bitterness, which was so faithful to how life really is. And a really plus point, missy, the movie was artistically taken, could almost say it was beautiful; like an honest beautiful tapestry of one's life. Hope you are convinced. By the way, I slept through Transformers, and this movie kept me going full concentrated albeit longer.'

And I like this:

'Oh and last by-the-way, there's of course music, yang cocok ambek jaman-jaman model baju which you like; you know, those with renda-renda and mekrok-mekrok, and gothic somewhat.' (SG)

='D

I surely had the natural urge to see the singer's life portrayal. With SG's seriously strong persuasion, how can I resist. However, let me first wait for AK to be back from China ya =)

Half

Half Nelson half person half grace.

One does not have to be good to do good things for common good. When one does bad things does not mean one is bad.

Comfort and encouragement for half me.

"Why do you ask me about what is good?" "There is only One who is good."

When one does bad things it shows that one is bad.

What do you mean by 'shows', di?

That shows that men are born sinners; we have the original sin inherited from the first Adam.

But the fact there is some good in this world, shows that there is common grace. Common grace prevents men from becoming even worse. Men are totally depraved, but not utterly depraved. And remember that men are created in the image of God.

Another way to put it is that man's depravity is total in extent, but not in degree.

Malena: Another perk of beauty

Just watched Malena. Sight of outstanding beauty (Monica Belluci), victim of her own beauty? Menacing to the same sex, intimidating to those of opposite. Men are guilty of lust, women of vicious gossip and a little more than envy. And Malena, ‘that the Scordia woman committed no other crime, than that of being ill-fated alone, and beautiful..' She was beautiful, harshly misjudged, entirely in agreement with the role of seductive, available Eve. Also her peculiar power: the downcast eyes which rarely looked up, not talking much, seen to be mostly walking, yet very affective presence and mysterious charm. And false sham morality of Catholic society at odds with itself. The hatred of women mob made me think of the stoning of Mary Magdalene. Wonderfully crafted, Eros of the youth Renato was beautiful. The scenes in Sicily, Italy too. =)

(I am still haunted by D.T’s awful remark ='( Beauty is a curse on the world, it keeps us from seeing who the real monsters are.)

Good for good reason

A row of rather competent movies these few days. Memoirs of a Geisha, Anna Karenina, Diary of Anne Frank, The man in the iron mask. Everything changed, I was knocked out of my complacency. Could not stop regretting, how could I remain ignorant all these while. There are some stories everyone should know. I still do not know many. =( Very disheartened now.
